Cluster Bio-Medical Engineering
The Biomedical Engineering cluster aims at promoting the collaboration of research institutes and industry in the fields of medical engineering and bio technologies.
The objective is to perform research and develop of methodologies and products as well as to support teaching activities in the focus areas medical and experimental imaging, image-guided therapy, organ support, biohybrid systems, and personalised health care.
The Helmholtz Institute for Biomedical Engineering constitutes the core of the cluster. Seven chairs and departments from four faculties are already working on interdisciplinary projects in the field of biomedical engineering.
Among the first buildings constructed under the research campus initiative is the Center for Medical Engineering, construction work for which will soon be underway.
The Center will be located in the direct vicinity of the University Hospital and the Helmholtz Institute. It will house branches of well-known companies as well as start-ups within its more than 4,000 m² of cutting edge laboratory and research office space.
