Calcification Models for Cardiovascular Implants

Mouse Heart with Cannulation

Calcification is one of the main issues for biological implants even after 50 years of research. The calcification process of such implants is evaluated expensive and time consuming in vivo or in vitro test setups.

An alternative is developed at the CVE at the moment: a perfusion system for isolated murine hearts. These hearts are for example perfused with different calcification fluids. This method guarantees a direct simulation of tissue calcification with reduced expenses.
